Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], July 1 (ANI): The Gujarat government on Wednesday announced that procurement of summer moong at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will begin across the state from July 7 under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) of the Central government's PM-AASHA Yojana.

According to a press release issued by the Gujarat CMO, the decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. Sharing the details, Gujarat government spokesperson and Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said the procurement drive has been launched in the interest of farmers to ensure they receive remunerative prices for their produce.

Vaghani said the Government of India has fixed the MSP for summer moong at Rs 8,768 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season. He said that whenever market prices fall below the MSP, procurement of the summer moong crop is undertaken in Gujarat under the Price Support Scheme of the PM-AASHA Yojana to safeguard farmers from financial losses.

According to the Minister, a total of 14,383 farmers from across Gujarat have registered to sell their summer moong at the MSP. To facilitate the procurement process, the state government has designated 51 procurement centres across different districts where registered farmers will be able to sell their produce.

He said all registered farmers will receive information regarding their procurement schedule through SMS. Farmers will be required to visit their allotted procurement centre with their stock of moong on the date and time mentioned in the message.

Vaghani further said that for the 2025-26 procurement season, the quantity of moong to be purchased from each farmer will be determined based on the sown area, taking into account a productivity norm of 1,200 kilograms per hectare.

He added that the maximum procurement limit has been fixed at 1,500 kilograms, equivalent to 75 mann, per farmer.

Appealing to farmers, the Minister urged all registered beneficiaries across the state to participate in the procurement process within the stipulated time to avail themselves of the maximum benefits under the scheme.

The Price Support Scheme under the Centre's PM-AASHA Yojana enables procurement of eligible agricultural commodities at the notified MSP whenever market prices decline below the support price, intending to protect farmers' incomes. (ANI)
