After a pair of frustrating losses, the last thing the Milwaukee Brewers needed Wednesday night was to see starting pitcher Dustin May depart after one pitch.

But the Brewers spent the rest of the evening displaying the collective effort that's helped them produce the best record in the majors.

On Thursday night, they'll have a chance to win the three-game series against the host New York Mets behind one of the game's most electrifying pitchers in right-hander Jacob Misiorowski.

Misiorowski (13-5, 1.68 ERA) will oppose Mets left-hander Sean Manaea (4-5, 4.31).

A trio of pitchers got the final 26 outs Wednesday for the Brewers, who cruised to an 8-1 win.

May suffered a bruised right scapula when he was struck in the upper back/right shoulder area by A.J. Ewing's 106 mph line drive, which caromed to third baseman David Hamilton, who threw to first for the out.

May is listed as day-to-day due to the injury.

Robert Gasser, Grant Anderson and Bryse Wilson followed him on Wednesday and combined to cover the final 8 2/3 innings. Gasser, pitching in relief for the first time after making his first 22 big league appearances as a starter, allowed the lone run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Gasser was aided almost immediately in the second inning, when the Brewers scored four runs on six hits -- all singles. Milwaukee didn't record an extra-base hit until the fourth, when Brice Turang hit a three-run homer.

The lopsided win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Brewers, who stranded five runners in the final two innings of Tuesday's 3-2 loss in 10 innings. On Sunday, William Contreras' potential walk-off home run was caught at the center-field wall in the ninth inning of a 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

'In general, our guys respond -- they know how hard it is to win a major league game,' Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. 'They knew they had to pick it up. Great performance and response. And great performance by Gasser, Anderson and Wilson getting through that game for us.'

The Mets hope third baseman Bo Bichette also dodged a serious injury Wednesday night, when he suffered a bruised left foot after fouling off a pitch in the third inning. He was lifted prior to the top of the fifth for Christopher Morel.

Bichette underwent an X-ray, which showed no damage beyond the bruise.

'We'll see where he's at when he wakes up in the morning,' Mets interim manager Andy Green said Wednesday. 'You never really know how that is until the next day, but hoping he's fine.'

Misiorowski, meanwhile, earned the win in his most recent start last Friday, when he tossed six scoreless innings in a 2-1 win over the Braves. It was the 14th time this season he has allowed one run or less. He leads the majors in both ERA and strikeouts (216).

Manaea didn't factor into the decision last Friday after allowing four runs over six innings in the Mets' 6-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Misiorowski is 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in two career starts against the Mets, and Manaea is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in six games (five starts) vs. the Brewers.
