Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Andrew Heaney likely won't miss a start after being hit by a line drive in his pitching arm in Saturday's 13-3 win over the Kansas City Royals, manager Dave Roberts said.
Heaney, who has been on and off the injured list this season, was hit by a Bobby Witt Jr. 106.5 mph line drive in the third inning and sustained a contusion of the left bicep.
After the incident, Heaney, 31, was visited on the mound by Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert, who gave him the go-ahead to stay in the game. He finished the third by striking out Salvador Perez and Hunter Dozier but was replaced by Caleb Ferguson to start the fourth.
"I talked to him after he got hit, in between innings, where it was at -- bicep -- and talking to our head trainer, Thomas, and just kind of my eyes, there wasn't much reason to send him back out there," Roberts told SportsNet LA. "He was fighting to stay in, which is a good thing. I expect him to make his next start."
That scheduled start is Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Heaney was activated from the injured list for a second time on July 27 following left shoulder inflammation.
He has been limited to seven starts this season and is 1-0 with a 1.16 ERA but has thrown just 31 innings.
