Green Bay gets long-awaited Week 1 opener at Lambeau Field

GREEN BAY The Packers' 2025 schedule has arrived. Here are 10 things to know:

For the first time in Matt LaFleur's seven seasons as head coach, Green Bay plays at home in Week 1 against the reigning NFC North champion Detroit Lions in a 3:25 p.m. CT tilt.

From 2019-24, the Packers' stretch of six consecutive regular-season openers away from Green Bay was the longest in team history and also the NFL's active longest streak prior to this year.

The last time Green Bay played Week 1 at Lambeau Field came in 2018 when the Packers requested to host their longtime rival, the Chicago Bears, to kick off the franchise's 100th season.

The matchup with the Lions marks the first time Green Bay has opened the season against Detroit in 20 years and the first time the Packers are hosting the Lions in a Week 1 opener since a 28-6 win in 2001.

After the opener against Detroit, the Packers face a quick, four-day turnaround against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football on Sept. 11.

It's the first time Green Bay has had back-to-back home games to start a regular season since 2018. It also hosted the first two games of the 2012 season against San Francisco and Chicago on a Sunday and Thursday, respectively.

The Commanders game features the first matchup between Jordan Love and Jayden Daniels, the NFL's reigning offensive rookie of the year.

The Packers only play back-to-back home games twice all season, with the other stretch coming in Weeks 9-10 against Carolina and Philadelphia.

Washington marks the first of four primetime games Green Bay is scheduled for at the moment.

The Packers are locked into Sunday Night Football at Dallas in Week 4 and slated for another in Week 8 at Pittsburgh.

The Packers will face the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in Week 10 (Nov. 10) but could also play the Bears at Soldier Field in a Saturday night primetime game in Week 16.

While that Dec. 20 contest will be broadcast on FOX, it's undecided whether it'll be played at 3:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. CT.

It's the 33rd consecutive year Green Bay will appear on Monday Night Football.

After hosting Miami last Thanksgiving, the Packers head back to Detroit to face the Lions for the second time in three years on the holiday.

It's the first time Green Bay has played on Thanksgiving in three consecutive seasons since a stretch of 13 straight Thanksgiving games from 1951-63.

It'll be the 23rd time Green Bay and Detroit have met on Thanksgiving, the most in the NFL. The Packers won the most recent encounter, a 29-22 triumph at Ford Field on Nov. 23, 2023.

After the opener vs. the Lions, the Packers won't play another division opponent for 2 months.

Green Bay has five division games over its last seven, beginning in Week 12 with a stretch of three straight NFC North games (vs. Minnesota, at Detroit and vs. Chicago).

The Packers also face the Bears twice over three weeks, the first time that's happened since the final three weeks of the 1998 season. The teams' Week 16 meeting marks the first time Green Bay and Chicago have played a Saturday game since a 17-3 Packers win on Dec. 5, 1964.

After receiving a rare midseason bye in 2024, the Packers' open week again comes on the early side of the schedule.

The Packers will be off in Week 5, which follows a familiar trend over the past decade. Green Bay also had early byes in 2023 (Week 6), 2020 (Week 5), 2018 (Week 7), and 2016 (Week 4).

While Rodgers weighs whether to return for a 21st NFL season, the league still booked one of his potential suitors for a primetime game against Green Bay in Week 8. It's just the second time the two iconic franchises have met on Sunday Night Football and first since 2017.

Rodgers has been linked to the Steelers since officially receiving his release from the New York Jets in March.

Pittsburgh's current quarterback depth chart consists of veteran Mason Rudolph, rookie sixth-round pick Will Howard and Skylar Thompson, who signed a futures contract at the end of last season.

The Packers' current schedule includes a stretch of four consecutive noon start times from Weeks 11-14.

The Packers flip back and forth between road games (New York Giants on Nov. 16 and Detroit on Nov. 27) and home games against Minnesota (Nov. 23) and Chicago (Dec. 7), though all but the Lions game could be subject to flex.

Green Bay is only scheduled for two other noon games the rest of the season Week 3 at Cleveland and Week 9 vs. Carolina.

The Packers know they'll host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 and finish the regular season in Minnesota but neither of those days, times or networks has been decided yet.

Green Bay will play Baltimore on either Saturday, Dec. 27, or Sunday, Dec. 28. It'll be the first time the Packers will face played two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson in the regular season.

For the first time in five years, the Packers and Vikings won't conclude their regular-season series in Week 17. Instead, the Packers will wrap the regular season against their division foe for the first time since 2015. The teams last played a regular-season finale at Minnesota in 2012.

The gold ticket package includes the second and fifth home games in the regular season, which this year means the Thursday Night Football game against Washington in Week 2 and the Monday Night Football contest against Philadelphia in Week 10.
