Nagaon (Assam) [India], December 28 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday highlighted the significance of the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project for the state.
In a post on X, he said that Monday is going to be a big day, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to dedicate the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project to the people of Assam.
'Tomorrow will be a historic day as Adarniya @AmitShah ji will dedicate the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project to the people of Assam. This project is very close to my heart and will represent our beautiful culture and further spread Gurujona's ideals,' he posted on X.
According to Sarma, the project will showcase Assam's rich culture and promote the ideals of Srimanta Sankardeva, a revered Vaishnav saint.
The project transforms Batadrava Than, Sankardeva's birthplace, into a world-class spiritual and cultural hub. Highlights include the world's tallest Guru Asana, Sattriya-inspired guest houses, and a theatre designed like a traditional Assamese japi.
With nearly 90% of the work completed, the inauguration is expected to draw thousands of attendees, including dignitaries and devotees.
Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the infrastructure of the Batadrava Than and asked PWD officials and the Batadrava Than Management Committee to prepare a detailed proposal for the overall rejuvenation of the than premises, including the Boha Ghar, Sabha Ghar, office rooms, etc. Sarma also took stock of the implementation works of the project for the development of
Assam government has taken up the Batadrava Than beautification project with a cost of Rs. 188 crore. Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation of the project on February 25 this year.
On 22nd December, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Batadrava Cultural Project site in Nagaon district, reviewed the final phase of construction, and inspected the venue for the public meeting to be held in connection with its formal inauguration.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will formally inaugurate the Project on December 29. The Batadrava Cultural Project, undertaken by the Government of Assam, aims to develop the sacred Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, into a world-class spiritual and tourism destination.
During the visit, Chief Minister Sarma reviewed the final phase of construction for the project and inspected the venue for the public meeting to be addressed by the Union Home Minister.
The Chief Minister issued necessary directions to officials of the district administration, Public Works Department and other concerned departments to ensure the timely completion of the remaining works and the smooth conduct of the inauguration programme.
The Batadrava Cultural Project is being developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 217 crore on 162 bighas of land freed from encroachment as part of a focused initiative by the Assam Government.
The project aims to preserve and showcase the religious and cultural legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva while providing modern facilities for visitors.
Designed as a comprehensive spiritual and cultural complex, the project includes the world's tallest Guru Asana, guest houses adorned with artistic elements reflecting Sattriya culture, an art centre inspired by traditional cymbal, a research centre shaped like a khol, a skill development centre designed in the form of a boat and a theatre modelled after a traditional japi, among other features.
The various components have been planned to blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary infrastructure, giving the project a distinctive character.
Minister for Water Resources Pijush Hazarika, MLAs Rupak Sharma, Jitu Goswami, Ramakanta Deuri and Sashikanta Das, Satradhikar of Naraoa Satra and President of the Batadrava Than Management Committee, Amlanjyoti Dev Goswami, other office-bearers of the committee, District Commissioner Devasish Sharma, senior officials of the district administration, heads of various departments and local residents were present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
