The European Union is considering hitting Washington with 93 billion euros (107.68 billion U.S. dollars) worth of tariffs or restricting American companies from the bloc's market, in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats over Greenland, according to Financial Times.

Citing officials involved in the preparations, the Financial Times said the retaliatory measures are being drafted to give European leaders leverage ahead of pivotal meetings with Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos the following week.

Iran's president warns strikes on Khamenei would lead to "all-out war"

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Sunday that any attack on Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would be considered a declaration of "all-out war" against the Iranian nation, following a sharp exchange of rhetoric with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Pezeshkian's comments, posted on social media platform X, come amid heightened tensions after Trump told Politico on Saturday that it was "time to look for new leadership in Iran."

"Any attack on our great leader will be tantamount to an all-out war against the Iranian nation," Pezeshkian wrote.

8 European countries issue joint statement of "full solidarity" with Denmark over Greenland

In a rebuke to the latest tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, the eight European countries targeted by the tariffs issued a joint statement on Sunday, affirming their "full solidarity" with Denmark and Greenland and warning that the U.S. actions risk triggering a "dangerous downward spiral" in transatlantic relations.

The statement was issued by Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Britain.

The eight countries, all targeted by Trump's tariff threats on Saturday, stated that they are "committed to upholding our sovereignty" and stand ready for dialogue based on the principles of "sovereignty and territorial integrity." They condemned the U.S. tariffs, saying that they "undermine transatlantic relations," and vowed a "united and coordinated" response.

Trump seeks 1 bln USD pledge for joining U.S. Peace Board

U.S. President Donald Trump plans to require countries to contribute at least 1 billion U.S. dollars to secure a permanent seat on the Trump-proposed "Board of Peace," Bloomberg reported on Saturday.

According to a draft charter seen by Bloomberg, Trump would serve as the board's inaugural chairman and decide which national leaders are invited to join the board. While decisions would be made by a majority vote, with each member state holding one vote, all resolutions would be subject to the chairman's approval.

"Each Member State shall serve a term of no more than three years from this Charter's entry into force, subject to renewal by the Chairman," the draft says, adding that the three-year membership term shall not apply to member states that contribute more than 1 billion U.S. dollars in cash funds to the Board of Peace within the first year of the Charter's entry into force.

Syria's interim authority, SDF sign new ceasefire, integration deal amid flare up in N. Syria

The Syrian interim authority and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) signed a new ceasefire and integration agreement on Sunday aimed at ending hostilities and resolving long-standing security and administrative disputes in northern Syria, state news agency SANA reported.

The deal calls for an immediate, comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts and the withdrawal of SDF forces to areas east of the Euphrates River in preparation for redeployment.

Under the agreement, the interim authority will assume full administrative and military control over Raqqa and Deir al-Zour provinces, including all civil institutions and public facilities. Existing employees will be retained, and Damascus pledged not to pursue SDF fighters or civil administration personnel. Civil institutions in Hasakah province will also be integrated into state structures.

Chile wildfire death toll rises to 18

Chilean President Gabriel Boric said Sunday that the death toll from wildfires ravaging the country's south-central region has reached 18 and is expected to rise further.

"Today we have a confirmed number of 18 fatalities, but unfortunately we are certain that this figure will rise," Boric told reporters in Concepcion in the Biobio region, about 500 km south of Santiago.

He said preliminary estimates indicate around 300 homes have been destroyed in Biobio alone, warning that the final number could exceed 1,000.

6 killed, over 20 injured in shopping mall fire in southern Pakistan

At least six people were killed and over 20 others injured after a fire broke out at a shopping mall in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi late Saturday night, officials said on Sunday.

Spokesperson of the southern Sindh province, Sadia Javed, told Xinhua that the blaze erupted at Gul Plaza, a multi-storey shopping mall located on the MA Jinnah Road, which houses over 1,200 shops.

The spokesperson added that the firefighting teams have been working consistently to control the 3rd-degree fire, which spread to several floors of the plaza.

Philippine landfill landslide death toll reaches 36 as last missing worker found

The body of the last remaining missing person in the Jan. 8 landfill landslide in the central Philippine city of Cebu was retrieved early Sunday, bringing the total number of victims who perished in the tragedy to 36, the country's Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

In a social media post, the BFP said all reported missing individuals had been accounted for as of 5:41 a.m. local time on Sunday, marking the completion of search, rescue, and retrieval operations nearly two weeks after the incident.

"Responding teams have completed systematic search, rescue, and retrieval operations, ensuring that no further missing persons remain," the bureau said, adding that coordination among ground units and partner agencies remains in effect as post-operation assessments and site monitoring continue.
