After making his mark as a special teams player, Anthony Levine Sr. will lead that unit as a coordinator.

Head Coach Jesse Minter named Levine the Ravens' special teams coordinator on Tuesday, turning to a former player who embodied what it meant to play like a Raven. Nicknamed "Co-Cap," Levine spent 10 seasons with the Ravens (2012-21) as a special teams ace and is the franchise's all-time leader in special tackles.

Levine, who was Baltimore's assistant special teams coach in 2025, replaces Chris Horton, who has reportedly joined John Harbaugh's staff as the New York Giants' special teams coordinator.

It's a natural transition for the 38-year-old Levine, who led special teams with passion as a player. He coaches with similar enthusiasm, and his voice was often heard at practices last season, working players through drills while assisting Horton.

Levine, who played both cornerback and safety, earned his way into the NFL as an undrafted (2010) player from Tennessee State, spending two seasons with the Green Bay Packers before his release in 2012. Signed to the Ravens' practice squad in 2012, Levine earned a roster spot and appeared in two games that season before being placed on injured reserve.

However, Levine blossomed in 2013 and led the team in special teams tackles with 16. From that point, Levine became a team leader who earned wide respect from players and coaches.

Levine earned the nickname "Co-Cap" for his status as captain of the Ravens' premier special teams unit. He carried the nickname with pride and was praised by Harbaugh after retiring as a player following the 2021 season.

"Tough, smart, persistent and dependable, Anthony represents the very best of what it means to be a Raven," Harbaugh stated following Levine's retirement. "A relentless competitor and man of high character, Anthony poured every part of himself into the team.

"He worked tirelessly to become one of the NFL's best special teams players, and he could always be relied upon to contribute at a high level on defense no matter the role he was asked to play. Most importantly, Anthony is a terrific leader of men and someone who helped his teammates become the very best versions of themselves."

Levine spent one year on the Ravens' staff before joining the Tennessee Titans in 2023 as an assistant special teams coach. Levine left Tennessee's staff after the 2024 season and returned to Baltimore, where he will continue as a key member of the staff in Minter's first season as head coach.

Minter spent four years as a defensive assistant with the Ravens (2017-20) when Levine was a player and became very familiar with his dedication and passion. Levine becomes the second former Ravens player on Minter's staff, joining Defensive Coordinator Anthony Weaver.
