COLUMBUS, Ohio: On February 19, an Ohio woman was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences with the possibility of parole after 60 years after she pleaded guilty to using fentanyl doses to kill four men she was trying to rob.
Rebecca Auborn, 36, from Columbus, was formally charged in 2023. She was accused of meeting men for sex and then giving them drugs that caused their deaths. At first, she said she was not guilty, but later she admitted her guilt.
A judge in Franklin County sentenced her to four life sentences in a row. She can apply for parole after 15 years for each sentence. Auborn also admitted guilt to one charge of serious assault for trying to overdose another man, Ohio Attorney General David Yost said.
"This sentence reflects the defendant's disregard for life and the callousness not only to kill, but to do it repeatedly," Yost said. "My heart goes out to the families who lost a loved one - I pray that this measure of justice brings them closure and peace."
Yost said a special police group in Central Ohio that works on human trafficking cases received a tip. They were told that a sex worker was giving drugs to men in order to steal their belongings. Police then started an investigation. Officials said the crimes took place in 2022 and 2023.
