BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. Liu, Ji named as China's flagbearers for Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics opening ceremony
Para alpine skier Liu Sitong and Para snowboarder Ji Lijia were named as China's flagbearers for the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, the Chinese delegation announced on March 5.
Liu, 31, who pocketed one silver and three bronze medals in last edition of the Games on home snow, will participate in five events of Para alpine skiing at the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics.
Ji topped the podium in the men's snowboard cross SB-UL and won a silver in the banked slalom SB-UL at Beijing 2022. The 23-year-old will compete in the same two events at Milan-Cortina 2026.
The opening ceremony was held in Verona, Italy on March 6.
2. China beats Uzbekistan to reach Women's Asian Cup quarterfinals
Li Qingtong scored twice as China beat Uzbekistan 3-0 in the second group game at the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup on March 6 to guarantee a quarterfinal spot.
Earlier in the day, DPR Korea crushed Bangladesh 5-0. The result leaves China in second place in Group B, sitting behind DPR Korea on goal difference.
China will play DPR Korea in its third and final group stage match at Western Sydney Stadium on March 9 for top spot in the group.
3. Chinese teenage swimmer Yu Zidi nominated for Laureus Awards
China's 13-year-old swimmer Yu Zidi became one of the youngest athletes to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards when she was named among the candidates for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year category on March 3.
Yu formed part of China's team that took bronze in the 4x200m freestyle at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, becoming the youngest swimmer in history to win a world championship medal.
Yu also qualified for the final in the 200m individual medley and the 200m butterfly in Singapore, but finished fourth in both finals, just missing out on a medal.
4. China's Sun Yingsha, Wang Chuqin win singles titles at WTT Singapore Smash
China's Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin captured women's and men's singles titles respectively at the WTT Singapore Smash on March 1.
The women's final between Sun and compatriot Wang Manyu featured six competitive games, with Sun prevailing 4-2 to seal the championship.
In the men's final, Wang delivered a dominant performance, defeating Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-ju 4-0 to secure the title.
5. China rallies past Chinese Taipei for 2nd straight win in FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers
China rallied to beat Chinese Taipei 100-93, securing its second consecutive victory in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers on March 1.
Trailing by seven points midway through the fourth quarter, China gradually rallied back, as veteran guard Zhao Jiwei sank a shot well beyond the arc to tie the game at 91-91 with 2:44 remaining.
Zhao Rui then drew a foul when attempting a 3-pointer, and he made two of three free throws to put China in front 95-93. Steady performances on the free-throw line secured China's win.
China previously defeated Japan 87-80 away on February 26 for its first win in the phase.
