BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. Asian Beach Games concludes in Sanya with seaside celebration
The 6th Asian Beach Games closed on April 30 in south China's tropical Sanya, with the closing ceremony held at the seaside Yasha Park.
Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani declared the Games closed as fireworks lit up the sky above Sanya Bay.
From April 22 to 30, more than 1,600 athletes from all 45 OCA members competed across 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events.
The next edition of the Asian Beach Games will be held in Cebu, the Philippines, in 2028.
2. China advances into Thomas & Uber Cup semifinals
World champion Shi Yuqi returned and defending champion China breezed past Malaysia 3-0 to reach the semifinals of the Thomas Cup on May 1.
Shi, who withdrew from the second group match on April 27 due to acute gastroenteritis, defeated Leong Jun Hao 2-1 to earn China the lead, before Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang and Li Shifeng wrapped up the match.
China took one step closer to its Uber Cup title defense with a 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the quarterfinal on April 30. Birthday girl Wang Zhiyi took the opening victory in straight games and world No. 1 pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning put China further ahead. Olympic champion Chen Yufei sealed the win in the second singles match.
3. China dominates opening day with five golds at Diving World Cup Super Final
China swept all five golds on the opening day of the 2026 World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final in Beijing on May 1.
Wang Zongyuan and Zheng Jiuyuan claimed the men's 3m synchronized title with 460.68 points. In the men's 10m synchronized, Zhao Renjie and Yang Zhihao handled the pressure to seal the win with 448.68 points.
On the women's side, Chen Jia and Chen Yiwen scored 331.05 points to clinch the 3m synchronized title. Chen Yuxi and Lu Wei led all the way to pocket the women's 10m synchronized gold with 366.12 points.
Chinese quartet of Liu Chengzan, Lin Shan, Lu Wei and Bai Yuming won the mixed team title with 463.70 points.
4. China wins three golds at Artistic Swimming World Cup in Xi'an
China pocketed three golds and one silver as the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup kicked off in Xi'an on May 1.
In team technical, China, winner of last year's World Cup Super Final and world championships, displayed dominance again, earning 304.3592 points to pocket the gold medal.
In women's duet technical, world champion Xu Huiyan and Lin Yanjun scored 308.2983 points for the victory. Xu also won the solo technical title with 263.8634 points.
Guo Muye took silver in men's solo technical with 245.2684 points, less than 0.5 points behind Ranjuo Tomblin of Britain.
5. Guangdong, Shandong force decider in CBA playoff first round
The Guangdong Southern Tigers cruised past the Guangzhou Loong Lions 85-64 in the first round of the 2025-26 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) playoffs on May 1, setting up a decisive Game 3.
Elsewhere, six players scored in double figures as the Shandong Heroes beat the Liaoning Flying Leopards 102-86. The Shanxi Loongs survived a comeback to defeat the Qingdao Eagles 90-86 in overtime, while the Zhejiang Golden Bulls held off playoff debutants the Ningbo Rockets 65-57 on April 29.
Winners of the regular season awards were announced on April 26. Shenzhen Aviators' guard He Xining was named the most valuable player, while Lu Wei of the Shanghai Sharks was voted the coach of the year.
In other categories, Shanghai center Hassan Whiteside was named defensive player of the year. Jia Mingru of the Shanxi Loongs earned the sixth man of the year award. Xu Xin of the Guangzhou Loong Lions was named the most improved player. Pang Zhenglin of the Jiangsu Dragons was selected as rookie of the year.
