Tehran [Iran], May 27 (ANI): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for stronger unity among Muslim countries, stressing that collective solidarity is essential to effectively addressing regional challenges and ongoing tensions in West Asia.
In a series of telephone conversations with leaders of several Muslim nations ahead of Eid al-Adha, Pezeshkian underscored the importance of deepening Islamic solidarity and expanding cooperation across all areas in the 'face of threats'.
'In my conversations with the leaders of Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Turkey, Tajikistan, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan, while congratulating them on the blessed Eid al-Adha, I expressed my hope that God may bring the hearts of us Muslims closer together and that we may witness the expansion of cooperation in all areas and comprehensive support for one another in the face of threat,' he said in a post on X.
Iranian State media PressTV reported that during his conversation with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Pezeshkian described Eid al-Adha as a powerful symbol of faith, sacrifice and unity among Muslim nations. He said the occasion should serve as a reminder for countries of the Islamic world to strengthen mutual trust and deepen regional ties. He also expressed appreciation for Kyrgyzstan's stance against a recent anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations Security Council, describing it as a reflection of 'mutual respect and responsible engagement' in international affairs.
In a separate call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Iranian President said the region would eventually move beyond the current phase of tensions, which he said had escalated following US-Israeli actions, PressTV reported.
He expressed confidence that a 'new chapter' in regional relations would emerge in the coming period, built on unity within the Islamic world and a collective rejection of external interference. Pezeshkian also reiterated Iran's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the preferred means of resolving disputes.
During talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Pezeshkian said unity among Muslim countries could play a key role in addressing shared regional crises and countering external pressures. He also called for stronger bilateral engagement between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur across economic, cultural and social sectors. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in response, expressed hope for greater unity and cooperation among Muslim nations, PressTV reported.
In separate conversations with Iraqi President Nizar Amidi and Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi, Pezeshkian highlighted the values of Eid al-Adha as a reminder of sacrifice, brotherhood and solidarity, stressing the need to strengthen regional cooperation and counter what he described as 'divisive plots by enemies.'
Millions of Muslims mark Eid al-Adha on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah to honour Prophet Abraham's devotion to God, demonstrated by his willingness to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ishmael. In recognition of his faith, God is believed to have intervened and provided a ram to be sacrificed instead. (ANI)
