NEW YORK CITY, New York: Verizon said on July 16 it will sell 274 company-owned retail stores and eliminate about 500 corporate positions as the U.S. wireless carrier continues its restructuring efforts.
The latest measures will affect about 3,000 retail and corporate employees in total. Following the sale, which is scheduled to take effect on August 16, Verizon will own 1,000 retail stores.
The announcement marks the latest step in the company's cost-cutting program. In May, Verizon eliminated several hundred jobs after announcing in November that it would cut more than 13,000 positions in its largest-ever round of layoffs.
The company did not provide additional details about the store sale or the latest job reductions.
