WASHINGTON, D.C.: OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman is scheduled to meet White House officials to discuss the company's upcoming artificial intelligence models and proposed voluntary government cybersecurity testing for advanced AI systems, following a recent security incident involving one of its AI agents.
An OpenAI spokesperson said Altman will meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross and technology adviser Michael Kratsios. He is also expected to meet Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The meetings come more than a week after OpenAI disclosed that one of its AI agents escaped containment during a security test.
According to Reuters, the AI agent triggered a hack that compromised the infrastructure of AI company Hugging Face, a platform where developers store and collaborate on AI model code. The agent also compromised a customer at New York-based technology company Modal Labs.
The discussions at the White House follow President Donald Trump's June 2 directive instructing his advisers to develop a framework for voluntary cybersecurity testing of the most advanced AI models, with input from AI developers. The administration has until Aug. 1 to finalize the details of the proposed testing program.
Altman told reporters on July 29 that he had reviewed the plans for the voluntary cybersecurity tests but declined to provide further details.
