2026 Training Camp Roster Moves

Friday, August 7

Steelers claim two:The Steelers claimed receiver Colton Dowell (from San Francisco) and tight end Lance Mason (from Seattle) off waivers.

Dowell, who was most recently with the San Francisco 49ers, was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

He spent time with the Titans (2023-25) and Baltimore Ravens (2025), appearing in 10 games. He has one reception for three yards.

Dowell played college football at the University of Tennessee Martin where he had 177 receptions for 2,796 yards and 19 touchdowns in 47 games.

Mason was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft.

He played at the University of Wisconsin in 2025, finishing the season with 30 receptions for 398 yards and four touchdowns. He began his college career at Missouri State. Mason had 86 career receptions for 1,198 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In a related move, the team released receiver A.T. Perry and tight end JJ Galbreath.

Thursday, August 6

Making more moves:The Steelers signed defensive back Israel Mukuamu to a one-year contract.

Mukuamu was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He spent four seasons with the Cowboys, playing under Coach Mike McCarthy. Mukuamu spent the 2025 season with the Carolina Panthers.

He has appeared in 51 games, starting three. He has 35 tackles, 24 of them solo stops, four passes defensed and three interceptions.

He played college football at South Carolina where he appeared in 31 games, starting 19. He had 86 tackles, 64 of them solo stops, 10 passes defensed, seven interceptions, four tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.

In a related move, the Steelers released cornerback Ahmari Harvey.

Tuesday, August 4

Camp moves continue: The Steelers signed receiver Jakobie Keeney-James.

Keeney-James originally signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft.

He spent time with the Green Bay Packers in 2025, initially on the practice squad, before being elevated to the active roster for the Week 18 game against Minnesota. He started one game and recorded two receptions for 15 yards. He also returned two kicks for 47 yards.

He played his final season of college football at the University of Massachusetts where he appeared in nine games. He had 40 receptions for 603 yards and five touchdowns. He transferred to UMass from Eastern Washington and appeared in a total of 49 collegiate games, with 111 receptions for 1,664 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In a related move, the team waived/injured receive Cole Burgess.

Adding to the secondary:The Steelers signed safety Rayshawn Jenkins to a one-year contract.

Jenkins, who was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, is entering his 10th season in the NFL.

He has spent time with the Chargers (2017-20), Jacksonville Jaguars (2021-23), Seattle Seahawks (2024) and Cleveland Browns (2025).

Jenkins has appeared in 139 career games, starting 92. He has recorded 562 tackles, 363 of them solo stops, 34 passes defensed and 20 tackles for a loss. He also added 11 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, five and a half sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including one he returned 102 yards for a touchdown.

Last season, Jenkins had 45 tackles for the Browns, 19 of them solo stops, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery while he appeared in 17 games, with three starts.

Jenkins played college football at the University of Miami.

In a related move, the Steelers released safety Darnell Savage.

Porter placed on PUP:The Steelers placed cornerback Joey Porter Jr. on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.

Porter has appeared in 47 games, starting 41. He has 164 tackles, including 120 solo stops, three interceptions, 31 passes defensed, and three tackles for a loss.

In 2025, Porter started all 14 games he appeared in, missing time due to injury. He recorded 52 tackles, 35 of them solo stops, and one interception. Porter also had a team-high 14 passes defensed.

Two start camp on PUP List:Cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Donte Kent have been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List to start training camp.

Per General Manager Omar Khan, Ramsey suffered a knee injury during the team's minicamp.

"We're going to be smart about it. He's a pro," said Khan. "You guys know how hard he works. If I had to guess I would say it's probably going to be a couple of weeks."

Ramsey, who started all 17 games last season, was ranked third in tackles on the Steelers in 2025 with 88, including 53 solo stops. He had eight passes defensed, one interception, four tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Ramsey was acquired by the Steelers in a trade with the Miami Dolphins during the 2025 offseason. He has appeared in 152 career games, starting 151, with 116 passes defensed and 26 interceptions.

Ramsey, who will be entering his 11th season in the NFL, is a three-time Associated Press All-Pro selection, earning first-team honors in 2017, 2020 and 2021. He is also an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, earning the honors from 2017-2023 and in 2025.

Kent, who was drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the 229th overall pick, suffered a foot injury in training camp last year and was placed on the Reserve/Injured List.

Kent had his 21-day window to return to practice opened on Dec. 3, but after sustaining a knee injury in practice, he remained on the Reserve/Injured List the remainder of the season.

Kent appeared in 53 games for Central Michigan, starting 48 games, and finished with 235 career tackles, 171 of them solo stops. He had 47 passes defensed, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, four and a half tackles for a loss, and one and a half sacks.
