Rescue teams in Nepal have found five bodies in a mountain area where five climbers went missing last year, officials said on August 8.
Local authorities said workers sent by a trekking company to search for the missing climbers spotted the bodies on August 7.
The mountain lies in the remote Rolwaling Valley in northeastern Nepal, a region known for difficult climbing routes that include rock, ice and deep snow.

KATHMANDU, Nepal: Rescue teams in Nepal have found five bodies in a mountain area where five climbers went missing last year, officials said on August 8.

The climbers disappeared in November 2025 after an avalanche hit them on Yalung Ri, a mountain in the Dolakha district near the Tibet region of China. The missing group included three foreign climbers –one Italian-Canadian, one Italian, and one German – along with two Nepali climbers.

Earlier, two other climbers, one from Italy and one from France, had died at the base camp of the same mountain. Yalung Ri stands at about 5,630 meters high.

Local authorities said workers sent by a trekking company to search for the missing climbers spotted the bodies on August 7. However, rescue teams have not yet reached the exact location due to poor weather.

Phurba Tenjing Sherpa, who works with the company that guides foreign climbers, said the team was waiting in the area for conditions to improve. "We are trying to reach the site where the bodies were seen but are stuck here due to bad weather," he said.

A helicopter has been kept ready nearby, but low visibility has delayed the operation. Officials believe the bodies may have become visible after snow in the area began to melt.

Authorities have not yet confirmed if the bodies belong to the same climbers who went missing last year.
