WASHINGTON, D.C.: Anthropic remains classified as a "Supply Chain Risk" by the U.S. Defense Department and the defense industry, a senior Pentagon official said, following suggestions that relations between the AI company and the Trump administration were improving.
Emil Michael, under secretary of defense for research and engineering, made the remarks in a post on X.
His comments came a day after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Anthropic was "back on the right side," adding, "we trust Anthropic" during an interview with Axios.
A federal judge ruled in Anthropic's favor on Aug. 27, determining that the Pentagon had illegally punished the AI company for criticizing the government and that the Pentagon's decision was "illegal and baseless."
The Defense Department did not respond to a request for comment.
