LYON finished the regular season atop the standings following their 2-0 win over Disguised on Sunday at the League Championship Series Summer Split.
LYON joined Team Liquid at 6-1 and ascended to first place based on their superior map record. As the top two teams, LYON and Liquid will advance straight to the upper-bracket semifinals in the playoff stage.
Disguised (1-6) had to win and hope for a loss by FlyQuest to have a shot at the sixth and final playoff berth. But FlyQuest defeated Shopify Rebellion 2-0 in the day's other match. FlyQuest and Shopify Rebellion finished fifth and sixth in the regular-season standings, each at 3-4.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. A seven-week round-robin regular season -- in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match -- set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The playoffs, which run Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, are best-of-five and double elimination. The top three teams will advance to the World Championship, played in New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from Oct. 15 through Nov. 14.
On Sunday, LYON defeated Disguised in 24 minutes on red and again in 24 minutes on blue. Kim 'Berserker' Min-cheol of South Korea posted a 17/2/14 kills-deaths-assists ratio for LYON, and teammate and countrymate Kang 'Saint' Seong-in contributed a 16/2/19 ratio.
FlyQuest prevailed in 32 minutes on red in both maps to defeat Shopify. Canadian-Iraqi player Fahad 'Massu' Abdulmalek led the way with an 18/2/14 K-D-A for FlyQuest and Vietnamese-American Johnson 'Gryffinn' Le posted a 15/3/21.
