NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks fell across the board Tuesday as Treasury yields surged and global bond markets dived. "Investors are finally catching up with the concerns," Melissa Brown, global head of investment decision research at SimCorp told CNBC Tuesday. Brown also noted U.S. government debt topping $40 trillion, inflation remaining "stubbornly high," and oil prices surpassing $100 a barrel "makes people sit up and take notice."
The nervousness on Tuesday worsened as the Federal Reserve is expected to hike official interest rates on Wednesday, with all eyes on President Donald Trump's pick to lead the central bank, Kevin Warsh.
"Markets want at least a little bit of guidance so that they can get their head around," Brown said. "I think if Warsh were to say, ‘We remain concerned about inflation, and we'll act accordingly,' I think that'll be fine. The concern is that he just doesn't say anything."
