Team Liquid completed an undefeated run through the League of Legends League Championship Series Summer playoffs on Sunday with a 3-1 defeat of LYON in Sunday's grand final.
It was a redemptive moment for Team Liquid, swept 3-0 by LYON in the grand final of the League of Legends LCS Spring playoffs on June 14.
The LCS Summer Split was an eight-team event that began July 25. A seven-week round-robin regular season -- in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match -- set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season were the two teams in the grand final, LYON and Team Liquid, both of whom finished 6-1, advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The teams that finished in the top three spots in the finals (Team Liquid, LYON, Cloud9) qualified for the $5 million LoL World Championship, scheduled for Oct. 15-Nov. 14. The fourth- and fifth-place teams (FlyQuest and Sentinels) received spots in the $223,000 Demacia Cup Global Invitational on Oct. 3-17 in China.
Team Liquid took control of the grand final by winning the first two games in 35 and 30 minutes on blue. LYON extended the match by winning in 41 minutes on red, but Liquid clinched with a 27-minute win on blue.
Brandon 'Josedeodo' Joel Villegas of Argentina led Liquid with the most kills (16) and fewest deaths (four), adding 27 assists. Lim 'Quid' Hyeon-seung of South Korea added a 15-7-30 kill-death-assist ratio.
South Korea's Kang 'Saint' Sung-in led LYON with a 16-9-6 K-D-A ratio.
