MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: Google has released its new flagship Gemini 4 Argon artificial intelligence model to developers and businesses worldwide, seeking to regain ground against OpenAI and Anthropic following months of delays and a leadership shakeup at its DeepMind lab.
Alphabet-owned Google said the model is designed for "deep work" involving complex, multi-step tasks across coding, finance, law, cybersecurity and science.
API pricing starts at US$2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with the rates set to double after November 30.
The launch follows a difficult period for Google's AI efforts. In September, the company said it no longer planned to release Gemini 3.5 Pro, which CEO Sundar Pichai had initially said would arrive in June.
Google also overhauled DeepMind after co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis stepped aside and several Gemini model leaders left the company.
Argon is available to paying customers through Google's AI application-building tools. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can access the model through the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search, while its Antigravity coding tool is limited to Ultra subscribers.
Google said teams using Argon in Antigravity increased agentic code submissions by more than 35 percent while reducing code rollbacks by nearly a third.
Early customers testing the model include Deloitte, LexisNexis, Ambience Healthcare and Isomorphic Labs.
Google also said it would expand its Fairwind Program to hundreds of additional partners. The program provides vetted cybersecurity defenders with a version of Argon without its cyber guardrails. The company said in September that it was providing the model to selected cybersecurity partners.
Separately, Google will give 10,000 scientists six months of free access to Antigravity's highest usage tier.
