Former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland ended her season early Tuesday in order to 'rest and recover.'
The six-time Grand Slam winner withdrew from this week's Ningbo Open in China and will not participate in the year-end WTA Finals next month at Indian Wells.
Swiatek, currently ranked No. 9, has been dealing with an injury to her left thigh.
'This has been one of the most demanding seasons of my career, with a lot of challenges, changes and lessons along the way,' she posted on social media.
'I'm especially proud of the work we've done in the second half of the year and the progress that came with it. It give me a lot of confidence in what's ahead.
'The past few months, or actually the past couple of years, have been incredibly intense and I feel I need to rest and recover my body fully. So that's exactly what I will do, a bit longer this time. I've decided to end my season here, which means I won't be playing any more tournaments this year.'
Swiatek, 25, finishes the season with a 39-15 record in singles. She won her 26th career WTA Tour title at the Canadian Open in August.
Only the top eight singles players qualify for the Nov. 8-15 WTA Finals. Swiatek had been competing with Karolina Muchova and Marta Kostyuk for the final berth.
