EAGAN, Minn.The New League Year begins March 11, 2026, and officially opens the door for free agents to sign with other teams after 3 p.m. (CT). It's a key phase as the Vikings prepare for next season.

Over the next several months, this tracker page will act as a one-stop shop for transactions completed by the team. It will include updates and a brief analysis for each move executed by Minnesota's front office.

Additionally, we'll track movements of players returning to (or leaving) the franchise through re-signings, extensions and the inking of exclusive rights deals. This page is being published March 2 to set the stage.

RB Ty Chandler

Essentially robbed of showcasing his Year 4 explosiveness by a Week 1 knee injury that sidelined him until Week 17, the 2022 fifth-rounder has a peculiar rsum. Chandler made four starts filling in for Dalvin Cook in 2023 and popped off for 258 yards on 53 attempts in those games (4.9-yard avg.). He went for 82 on 10 carries against the Niners in Week 2 in 2024, but by Week 5 lost momentum, fumbling at an inopportune time in London versus the Jets. Chandler entered 2025 as RB3, vying for snaps behind Aaron Jones, Sr., and Jordan Mason. His injury on special teams in Week 1 torpedoed his opportunities.

LS Andrew DePaola

DePaola scoffed in January when a reporter insinuated he might retire. It's true he turns 39 in July. It's also true DePaola is coming off four consecutive All-Pro nods, alternating First- and Second-Team prestige since 2022. The battery of him and kicker Will Reichard was the first set of specialists in Vikings history to receive All-Pro accolades in the same year (2025). DePaola has aged like a Cabernet Sauvignon.

CB Fabian Moreau

Moreau added experience and depth to the mix for the Vikings secondary. According to pro-football-reference.com, his passer rating allowed was 54.2 (nine completions on 20 pass attempts for 70 yards).

Career stats:322 tackles (222 solo), including 12 on special teams; four TFLs; seven INTs; 45 passes defended; three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery

WR Jalen Nailor

He goes by "Speedy" and is a feather in the cap of Vikings scouts as a 2022 sixth-rounder who has ditched early injury prone doubts. Nailor has managed back-to-back full seasons after playing in 21 games combined over his first two. And, although he functioned in the Vikings offense behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, Nailor produced career highs in catches and yards and showed up other times on film when the ball went another direction. It's his 27th birthday today (March 2). HBD, Speedy!

T Matt Nelson

A veteran journeyman, Nelson, 30, joined the Vikings on July 31 last year. Unfortunately, he landed on Injured Reserve less than two weeks later, and he spent the entirety of the 2025 slate out of the picture.

CB Jeff Okudah

The 2020 No. 3 overall pick intended to revive his career on his third different team in as many seasons but was shelved after six games after going into the concussion protocol twice in that span. Okudah was used as a boundary-side cornerback in Brian Flores' scheme, which catered to his length and physicality.

QB Brett Rypien

The nephew of Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien was claimed off waivers from Indianapolis, who scooped him up after he was released by Cincinnati, on Dec. 23. Brett Rypien was unheralded but important in his first stint with the Vikings, running the scout offense during the club's 14 wins in 2024. He has learned from the likes of Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers and Joe Burrow on his QB journey.

T Justin Skule

Skule was counted on in training camp to relieve Christian Darrisaw in the latter stages of his ACL recovery, and he wound up playing a prominent role in the regular season as the injury bug kept biting. The swing tackle manned both flanks and assumed the ninth-most offensive snaps (578) on the roster. Skule won't be 30 until mid-November, and suddenly has more starts since 2024 (14) than 2019-23 (12).

S Harrison Smith

Smith enjoyed a Hall of Fame-worthy salute from the home fans in Week 18 last season against Green Bay. The thing is, he very much looked the part of a future Hall of Famer still going strong just one week prior on Christmas Day, ledgering a sack and a pick en route to NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors against Detroit. Only "The Hitman" knows if he plans to hang it up or return for his 15th season in Purple.

DB Tavierre Thomas

Thomas was a sharp special-teamer in 2025, namely zooming down the field to cover punts. He served as a functional slot defender in Houston from 2021-23 but, otherwise, he has played minimally on defense in his career. A product of D-II Ferris State, Thomas turns 30 the day free agency officially opens.

Career stats:262 total tackles (163 solo); two interceptions and one pick six; seven forced fumbles; one sack

QB Carson Wentz

Wentz signed as a free agent in late August last year, stepped into the huddle on short notice and went 2-3 over five starts (losses to playoff teams Pittsburgh and Philadelphia were decided by nine points combined, for what it's worth). He wasn't flawless, but Wentz overall was gritty and likable as a battle-tested leader while playing for the team he grew up admiring before his season-ending shoulder surgery.

LB Eric Wilson

Few players changed outside perception like Wilson last season. Brought in for his expertise on special teams and to add depth at inside linebacker, the second-stint Viking (also 2017-20) ascended to the starting lineup when Green Dot LB Blake Cashman injured his hamstring in the season opener. When the dust settled, Wilson owned impressive counting numbers in Flores' defense. He'll be 32 early next season, but his conditioning at 31 resembled a young buck with years of peak performance out in front.

QB John Wolford

A football grinder, Wolford joined the practice squad in October and was elevated to the 53-man roster by season's end but didn't appear in a game. His latest regular-season action was with the Rams in 2022.

P Ryan Wright

As Special Teams Coordinator Matt Daniels described ad nauseam, "Mr. Wright" punted with supreme confidence in 2025, blending power and accuracy with improved consistency and poise amidst the noise. Admittedly raw as an undrafted player out of Tulane though his leg talent was observable Wright said his time on task has resulted in stronger focus and practice habits. Also, he has been excellent as the holder for Reichard, who has drilled 87.7% of his field goal tries since the tandem was founded in 2024.

LB Ivan Pace, Jr.

Pace was a tough son of a gun to stop his first two seasons, shooting into gaps like a mixed martial artist wholly unfazed by his size disadvantage. Skill-wise, he's quick as a hummingbird and powerful as the jaws of a Tasmanian devil. Pass coverage and missed tackles became a concern in 2025, however, contributing to a smaller role on defense. His yearly miss rate swelled from 6.4 to 10.0 to 11.4% since his 2023 debut.

TE Ben Sims

Released by rival Green Bay and claimed by Minnesota a couple days after in late October last season, Sims played minor bits on offense and special teams. A good athlete with good size and soft hands, he was actually with the Vikings in 2023 but settled in with the Packers after he was waived on cutdown day. In parts of five seasons at Baylor, Sims, originally a UDFA, caught 78 passes for 785 yards and 12 TDs.

DL Jalen Redmond

From the UFL with love, Redmond has emerged as one of the franchise's best feel-good stories. In 2024, he was a former spring leaguer determined to survive roster cuts. He played awesome in spurts and then parlayed trust in him into a dynamite 2025 campaign, in which he was arguably Minnesota's top interior defensive lineman, and played about 75% of the defensive snaps. He celebrates his 27th b-day March 12.

OLB Bo Richter

In a crowded OLB room, Richter did well carving out a significant role on special teams the past two seasons. He won't wow with his size or speed, but he owns great short-area quickness and instincts in rushing the passer. He's yet to really have the chance to prove his potential on defense, but he flashed frequently in 2025 training camp, working a spin move that could warrant use on known passing downs.

RB Zavier Scott

A good reflection of Head Coach Kevin O'Connell's efforts to add smart and tough people who love football, Scott took a challenging route to the Vikings, playing receiver and running back at Connecticut and Maine before spending half of 2023 with the Colts and latching onto the Vikings practice squad in 2024. In his breakout 2025, he flashed skills as a sizable runner who can make plays in the passing game.
