The Bears on Wednesday announced the return of linebacker Jack Sanborn, a Chicagoland native who played for his hometown team from 2022-24. Learn more about the fifth-year pro as he discusses who he's most excited to reunite with in Chicago, his hidden musical talents, how far he thinks Wisconsin his alma mater will advance during March Madness and much more.
What was your welcome to the NFL moment?
My rookie year getting pancaked early on in training camp. I forget exactly by who, but I'll never forget that feeling. And then going into the meeting room and then everyone talking about it after practice because it was that bad.
Who's on your linebacker Mount Rushmore?
We'll go modern Luke Kuechly, Brian Urlacher, Patrick Willis. I might put Fred Warner in there.
What's your favorite part of Chicago as a local?
The food. Just everything that you can get, especially out in the city. Love everything about that part of Chicago.
Who were you most excited to reunite with here?
Quite a few guys. The easy one is T.J. (Edwards).
Who are you most excited to play against or play with for the first time?
A lot of guys. Pretty much the entire O-line that is somewhat new. On defense, I mean, the new linebackers that are in the room. Devin (Bush), D'Marco (Jackson), so I think definitely quite a few people.
What's been your favorite away stadium to play in?
Lambeau Field or Minnesota's stadium.
If football did not exist, what would be your dream job?
Sports commentator.
What is a hidden talent that you have?
I could play the piano. I learned when I was younger, because of that lady right there [points to his mother].
What was your go-to song to play?
Animals. I used to play that a little bit. Or Don't Stop Believin'.
What's a random fact about you that we can't find on the internet?
I've got a turtle. His name is Scoots, 13 years old.
If you could be any Chicago sports icon in their prime for a day, who would you be?
That's tough. Devin Hester or Derrick Rose. Honestly, maybe Derrick Rose in that scenario.
How far is Wisconsin gonna go during March Madness?
If they can get by Arkansas and Arizona Elite Eight.
