New Delhi [India], March 19 (ANI): A team of Special Cell/ER has apprehended a proclaimed offender who had been evading arrest in connection with an Arms Act case registered in Delhi, police said on Thursday.

The accused was wanted in an FIR under Section 125 BSN and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act at Jagatpuri Police Station.

The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Ambala City in Haryana. The 26-year-old had been absconding since the registration of the case and was declared a proclaimed offender by the court.

According to the release, in March 2025, a resident of Jagatpuri, Delhi, received multiple threats and extortion calls/messages on his mobile phone from an international number.

The caller demanded Rs 4 crore extortion money, which led to the registration of an extortion case on March 25, 2025. The person making the extortion calls identified himself as Gangster Gurjant Singh alias Janta from Punjab. When the victim refused to pay extortion money, an incident of firing took place at the house of the person in the intervening night of April 1 and 2, 2025. In this regard, a separate case was registered in Police Station Jagatpuri on April 3, 2025. Investigation of both cases was entrusted to the Crime Branch.

Based on CCTV footage and technical analysis, the identity of the shooter was established as Jaswinder Singh @ Jassi, of Ambala, Haryana; however, he was absconding. CCTV footage also showed that the accused, Jaswinder, came in a bus from Ambala, boarded an auto from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Krishna Nagar, stole a motorcycle from Krishna Nagar, and thereafter went to the house of the victim and fired two rounds at the house and fled from there. He abandoned the stolen motorcycle near the Krishna Nagar bus stand, took an auto back to ISBT Kashmiri Gate, and caught a bus to Ambala, Haryana.

This sequence of events marked the accused as a desperate criminal. A dedicated team of the Eastern range of the Special Cell was working to nab the accused and after painstaking efforts of several months, specific input was received that the accused was hiding in Kharar, Punjab.

The team immediately swung into action and on March 16, conducted a surprise raid in Swaraj Nagar, Near Aksh Dairy, Kharar, Punjab and apprehended the accused person from his hideout. Accordingly, the accused was arrested, and legal provisions have been initiated against him. Further investigation is in process.

Accused Jaswinder Singh studied upto class 10th from Ambala but discontinued his studies due to the negative influence of friends from the locality.

After discontinuing his studies, Jaswinder alias Jassi got engaged in dealing of sale and purchase of dogs for a livelihood. In 2022, he had a quarrel with some persons in Ambala, in which he was badly beaten by some local boys. To avenge the beating, he came in contact with one Gaurav, who is a member of Gurjant alias Janta gang, who supported him in the quarrel. He came in contact with Gaurav through his friend Ballu. Thereafter, Gaurav tasked him to fire the shots in Delhi and allegedly provided the latitude and longitude location of the house of the target to Jaswinder.

Prior to the incident, he had also visited Delhi fora recce of the area. The weapon used in the crime was also provided to him by Gaurav. After that, he stayed at a Gurudwara stay facility in Amritsar, Punjab for about eight months. This was an important arrest to keep a check on the nefarious activity of the Gurjant Janta gang.(ANI)
