Bulgaria's economy recorded steady expansion in the first quarter of the year, with gross domestic product rising by 3.1% compared to the same period in 2025, according to data released by the National Statistical Institute. On a quarterly basis, GDP increased by 0.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.
Preliminary figures show that the country's total GDP for the first quarter of 2026 reached 27.33 billion euros. This corresponds to 4,262 euros per capita, reflecting the overall output of the economy during the period.
The labor market also remained stable, with the number of employed people in Bulgaria reaching 3.5 million. Productivity indicators showed moderate improvement, as GDP per employee rose by 1.6% year-on-year in the first quarter.
Officials note that the data reflects both annual and quarterly growth dynamics, with continued expansion across key economic indicators in the early months of the year.
