NEW YORK CITY, New York: GameStop said it will continue pursuing its proposed acquisition of eBay despite the e-commerce company's rejection of its unsolicited cash-and-stock offer valued at about US$56 billion.
The video game retailer said on June 26 that it remains committed to the proposed takeover, even though eBay turned down the offer after GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen unveiled the bid in May, arguing that a combined company would be a stronger competitor to Amazon and saying he would lead the merged business.
In a brief regulatory filing, GameStop did not provide additional details about the rationale for maintaining its pursuit of eBay or outline its next steps.
The company had said on June 23 that it would release additional materials regarding its plans for eBay later this week, including a detailed presentation outlining the strategic rationale and operational plan for the proposed combination. On June 26, GameStop said, "additional materials regarding the proposed transaction are forthcoming."
An eBay spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.
GameStop also said it expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) to exceed $600 million in fiscal 2026, up from $345.4 million reported for fiscal 2025.
The earnings forecast helped lift GameStop shares more than two percent in after-hours trading.
