LONDON, U.K.: British clothing retailer Next is preparing a takeover bid for luxury department store chain Harvey Nichols, according to a Sky News report.

The report, published on July 4, said Next's plans are still at a relatively early stage.

The report could not immediately be verified. Harvey Nichols declined to comment, while Next did not respond to requests for comment.

Founded in 1831, Harvey Nichols is known for selling luxury products ranging from fashion and cosmetics to food and wine.

The reported move comes shortly after Next acquired footwear brand Russell & Bromley through an insolvency process for £2.5 million ($3.3 million).
