MENLO PARK, California: Meta Platforms is in talks with Anthropic over a potential agreement to lease computing capacity valued at up to US$10 billion over two years, according to a New York Times report.
The proposed deal would help Meta generate additional revenue from its infrastructure investments while putting it in more direct competition with cloud computing providers such as CoreWeave and Nebius, as demand for AI computing capacity continues to grow.
According to the report, which cited three people with knowledge of the discussions, Anthropic proposed the agreement in June and Meta is considering it.
The Claude Code creator would make monthly payments to Meta over the two years, although the terms remain subject to change. The report added that both companies would have the option to exit the agreement early.
Meta shares trimmed some of their losses after the report but were still down nearly three percent amid a broader sell-off in technology stocks.
Anthropic declined to comment, while Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment. We could not independently verify the New York Times report.
