NEW YORK CITY, New York: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is leading a new effort to bring together major U.S. companies to address risks posed by artificial intelligence, as businesses rapidly adopt the technology, according to two sources familiar with the initiative.

Dimon has personally contacted the chief executives of large and regional banks, along with information technology companies, to encourage them to join the initiative. The effort expands the Alliance for Critical Infrastructure (ACI), a group that JPMorgan helped establish, the sources said.

The outreach, which began in July, includes more than 40 companies across financial services, energy, water, utilities, telecommunications, airlines, railroads and other critical infrastructure sectors that rely heavily on technology. The ACI has not disclosed the results of the effort.

The initiative aims to build a shared understanding of how AI is being used, the risks it poses and the safeguards needed, while also working with the Trump administration on those issues, the sources said. Recent cyberattacks on water systems in Minnesota and other states have underscored the need for greater information sharing across industries.

JPMorgan was a founding member of the ACI alongside Mastercard, Berkshire Hathaway Energy and other organizations. The alliance was created to coordinate resilience planning, share information and respond to cyber, physical and geopolitical threats affecting critical infrastructure. A dedicated team is now helping expand the group's AI-related work.

Dimon said the ACI leadership had recognized the importance of prioritizing AI "years ago and got critical infrastructure companies working together."

"We are proud to support this important work," Dimon said.

The ACI said in a statement that "at a time of growing cyber threats, protecting the systems Americans rely on every day requires strong collaboration between government and critical infrastructure companies."

According to the sources, the alliance is intended to serve as an industry forum for sharing information, identifying AI and technology risks, and working with government officials to address emerging challenges. The revamped ACI is expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.

AI-related concerns have grown as companies accelerate deployment of the technology, with regulators and industry leaders warning that advanced AI could increase cyberattacks and expose new vulnerabilities across critical infrastructure and financial systems.

The U.S. government has also increased coordination with industry. In July, it launched the Gold Eagle initiative to bring together AI developers, critical infrastructure operators, and federal agencies to share information about vulnerabilities identified by advanced AI systems and to coordinate responses.
