KYIV, Ukraine: A drone hit a petrol station in Kyiv early on September 15, injuring one person, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The attack came a day after U.S. President Donald Trump said Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to attack each other's energy facilities.

Klitschko said a separate strike damaged warehouse facilities in another part of the Ukrainian capital. A Reuters witness also heard an explosion in Kyiv.

Russia has recently expanded its attacks on petrol stations in Kyiv. Ukrainian authorities said Russian forces have hit about 300 petrol stations in recent months, mostly in or near frontline areas.

As Russia attacked Ukraine, neighboring Poland briefly launched military aviation operations as a precaution. Poland's Armed Forces later said there had been no violation of its airspace.

The movement of military drones into the airspace of Ukraine and neighboring countries has increased concerns that Russia's war could spread beyond Ukraine and affect NATO territory.

In Lithuania, a NATO fighter jet shot down a drone early on September 15, the country's National Crisis Management Center said. A drone alert had earlier been issued in Vilnius and nearby areas.

The fighting also continued inside Russia. A Ukrainian missile attack damaged a warehouse belonging to e-commerce company Ozon in the southern port city of Taganrog, along with other facilities, the regional governor said.

In the Samara region on the Volga River, a separate drone attack struck an industrial facility, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said. He did not identify the facility. The region is home to several major oil refineries.

Reuters said it could not immediately independently verify the reports from either side.

Trump had said on September 14 that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to stop attacking energy infrastructure.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Kyiv would support a U.S. proposal for a limited ceasefire covering only energy facilities if Washington could ensure Moscow was genuinely prepared to end the wider war.
