The Atlanta Braves placed right-handed reliever Robert Suarez on the 15-day injured list on Friday because of right forearm tightness.
The move is retroactive to Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Braves recalled right-hander Hurston Waldrep from Triple-A Gwinnett. Veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco elected to become a free agent.
Suarez, 35, last pitched on June 19, allowing two hits in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of a 3-2 home win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
He is 4-0 with four saves, a 0.56 ERA, six walks and 26 strikeouts in 32 innings over 31 relief appearances this season, his first with Atlanta.
Suarez was an All-Star the previous two seasons with the San Diego Padres before signing a three-year, $45 million contract to join the Braves.
For his career, Suarez is 26-13 with 81 saves, a 2.60 ERA, 69 walks and 245 strikeouts in 242 innings over 237 games, all in relief, for the Padres (2022-25) and Braves. His 40 saves last season led the National League.
Waldrep, 24, was a combined 0-0 with a 3.52 ERA, 11 walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings for three Braves affiliates at Rookie, Double-A and Triple-A this season.
He was 6-1 with a 2.88 ERA, 22 walks and 55 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings over 10 games (nine starts) for Atlanta in 2025. Waldrep is 6-2 with a 4.41 ERA in 63 1/3 innings over 12 games (11 starts) since making his major league debut in 2024.
Atlanta selected Waldrep in the first round (24th overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Florida.
Carrasco, 39, last pitched for the Braves on Tuesday and yielded one run on two hits, including a homer, in 1 2/3 innings of a 7-6 loss at San Diego in 10 innings. He is 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA, one walk and six strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings over seven relief appearances this season.
Over his 17 MLB seasons since 2009, Carrasco has played for four teams and gone 112-105 with two saves, a 4.22 ERA, 469 walks and 1,702 strikeouts in 1,702 innings over 342 games (286 starts).
