WARSAW, Poland: Polish authorities have charged a teenager linked to neo-Nazi groups with offenses related to the alleged preparation of attacks on a school and a mosque, officials said on September 22.

Prosecutors said Pawel G., a Polish citizen born in 2009, was detained on Friday. His full surname cannot be published under Polish privacy laws.

The Internal Security Agency (ABW) said the teenager had been communicating online with two 16-year-olds who were previously detained. The three were connected through extremist and neo-Nazi groups on messaging platforms Telegram and Discord.

According to the ABW, the online discussions included past terrorist attacks and the people who carried them out. Some of the conversations also involved possible future attacks, with participants discussing methods used by terrorists and treating the attackers as figures to learn from or imitate.

Justice Minister Waldemar Zurek said the alleged targets included a mosque and a school.

"There is not and will not be any leniency for fascism, hatred, or the planning of bloody attacks in Poland," he said on X.

Authorities said Pawel G. could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the offenses.

The case is part of an investigation into extremist activity involving young people and online neo-Nazi networks.

The two other teenagers, identified as Kacper K. and Wiktor S., have been placed in juvenile detention centers, according to the authorities.

The ABW said the investigation had uncovered online contacts between the teenagers and extremist circles. Investigators are examining the discussions and alleged preparations to establish the full extent of the group's activities and whether any concrete attack plans were developed.

Polish authorities have increasingly focused on extremist activity taking place through online platforms, where young people can come into contact with groups promoting neo-Nazi and other violent ideologies.

The latest case involves alleged discussions about terrorist attacks, their methods and potential targets, according to prosecutors and the security agency.

The investigation is continuing, and the charges against Pawel G. are allegations that have yet to be tested in court.
