DUBLIN, Ireland: Ireland's Government plans to add another 1 billion euros to the Future Ireland Fund in 2027, increasing investment to help meet the costs of an aging population and future demographic pressures.
The additional allocation would bring the fund's total investment in 2027 to 5.8 billion euros. The overall transfer into the fund is expected to reach 22.77 billion euros by the end of that year.
Tánaiste and Finance Minister Simon Harris is expected to tell the Cabinet that the investment is essential to protect future generations from economic shocks and rising costs. He will argue that setting money aside now will prevent younger people from facing avoidable financial pressures in the future.
Subject to Cabinet approval, Harris will bring a resolution before the Dáil before the end of the year to allow the additional transfer to proceed in 2027.
Separately, Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers will update the Cabinet on efforts to speed up the transfer of State-owned land needed for infrastructure projects.
State bodies have been instructed to prioritize transferring land needed for nationally important infrastructure. They have also been told to simplify internal approval procedures to speed up these transactions.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Hildegarde Naughton will ask the Government to note the establishment of the Forum on Inclusive Education for Students with Special Educational Needs. Its first meeting is scheduled for November.
The forum will bring together key stakeholders to develop a shared approach to inclusive education and identify practical measures to support students with special educational needs.
